Introduction of Filmmaking & Acting

Course Overview:

This course is designed to introduce teenagers to the fundamentals of filmmaking and acting. Students will learn the basics of storytelling, camera techniques, lighting, sound, and editing. They will also develop their acting skills through exercises and scene work. By the end of the course, students will have created their own short film and performed in a scene.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the basic elements of storytelling and how to apply them in film
  • Learn camera techniques, lighting, sound, and editing to create a cohesive film
  • Develop acting skills through exercises and scene work
  • Collaborate with peers to create a short film
  • Perform in a scene and receive constructive feedback

Course Structure:

Week 1: Introduction to Storytelling and Pre-Production

  • Introduction to the course and syllabus
  • What is storytelling? Understanding the basic elements of a story
  • Brainstorming and developing a short film concept
  • Pre-production: Scriptwriting, storyboarding, and casting

Week 2: Camera Techniques and Lighting

  • Camera basics: Frame, shot size, and composition
  • Lighting techniques for different moods and atmospheres
  • Shooting practices: Camera movement, blocking, and rehearsals

Week 3: Sound and Editing

  • Sound recording and mixing
  • Introduction to editing software
  • Editing techniques: Cutting, transitions, and pacing

Week 4: Acting Techniques and Scene Work

  • Understanding the basics of acting: Objective, obstacle, and tactics
  • Scene work exercises: Monologues and duologues
  • Rehearsing and performing a scene

Week 5: Directing and Collaboration

  • Introduction to directing: Communicating with actors and crew
  • Collaboration: Working with peers to create a short film
  • Preparing for the final project

Week 6: Final Project

  • Filming and editing the short film
  • Performing in a scene and receiving constructive feedback
